Math 120 and Math 121

Starting Winter 2007 in order to register for Math 121 you MUST also register for Math 120. If you are registering for classes using WebOpus, this means you must register for Math 120 and Math 121 at the same time. If you attempt to register for Math 121 without also registering for Math 120, you will encounter a prerequisite error even if you have passed Math 110 (or equivalent) with a grade of C- or better.

Math 120 is designed to provide extra support for the algebra skills necessary for Math 121.  You will have the opportunity to demonstrate sufficient algebra skills and hence “test out” of Math 120.  This will happen on the first day of class in Math 121.  To test out of Math 120 you must:

1)      Attend the first day of your Math 121 class.

2)      Come to class the first day with a photo ID

3)      Score sufficiently high on the Algebra diagnostic test administer during the first class session of your Math 121 class.

If you register for Math 121 after the first day of classes you may schedule an appointment with the Testing Center to take the test. You must take the test before Wednesday of the second week of classes.  There is a $20 fee to take the test in the Testing Center.

You may only take the Algebra Diagnostic test once per term.

If your score indicates sufficient mastery of algebra skills you will be notified that you may drop Math 120.   Before you drop the course please ensure that you are carrying enough credit hours for your particular situation (dorm, athletic, financial aid eligibility etc.)

If your score does not indicate sufficient mastery of algebra skills you must remain enrolled in and attend Math 120.  If, on census date, you are not enrolled in Math 120 you will be administratively dropped from Math 121.  After census date you may not drop Math 120 without also dropping Math 121.  In accordance with math department policy you must be earning a passing grade in both Math 120 and Math 121 in order to receive a W.
